It’s become almost fashionable these days to talk about the impending bankruptcy of Social Security, as if its demise is all but a done deal. But is that even the case? And how should we plan for what ever we might expect to get from the system when our turn at retirement comes along?
Let me state at the outset that I’m not a blind optimist cheering on the “company line” about Social Security as if dark clouds weren’t looming on the horizon. The fiscal ship that is 21st Century America is not an enviable one and the bill will certainly come due either gradually (let’s hope) or suddenly, but either way Social Security is likely to be there in the future—in some form or fashion.

With nearly 8,000 followers on Twitter, this is a question I’m getting pretty regularly these days. Most people assume I’ve signed up with an automated follower system, which isn’t remotely true. No, it’s just a regular routine—what’s now a habit—applied consistently over a period of several months.
Last year, I signed up with Twitter, Facebook, Linked-In and a few other social networks. I know all of the success guru’s say to get set up on all the various networks and start making friends and followers, but it’s equally true if you’re going to do any one of them well, it’ll take time and effort. So rather than spreading myself thin, I decided to pick just one and hit it hard.
After some weighing of options, I chose Twitter as the network to make my start.

Working a business in the online environment can be exciting. After all, it’s cyberspace – a new frontier. And, there is little doubt that many sources of information, ways of interacting with one another, and doing business will continue to expand in popularity and effectiveness on the web. And many have been very disappointed with the results, simply because they weren’t realistic in terms of expectations.
It’s commonly known that most online businesses fail. It’s largely because those involved pull the plug and abandon their efforts. Much of this retreat in the online marketplace is attributable to inadequate planning that fails to temper expectations. The Internet works at the speed of light, but revenue and profit doesn’t necessarily follow at the same pace. Even with hints of economic recovery in the air, getting a hired into a new job has never been harder, even for the fully qualified. I know many people who are or have been on extended periods of unemployment in the past year and one common theme is that the usual methods of getting hired aren’t working.
Getting a job is largely about getting noticed, and the best ways to do that are to approach employers in ways most other job seekers aren’t using. Try one or more of these and see if your luck doesn’t improve.
