I’ve Moved to YouTube!

If you’re familiar with Out Of Your Rut.com, you’re aware that I haven’t posted any new content here in a couple of years.

There are lots of good reasons for that.

The algorithm that governs the success or failure of blogs like this was seriously tweaked almost continuously from 2022 on. Those tweaks largely put an end to blogs like this, and thousands were reduced or abandoned.

In the process, I was also forced to abandon my freelance finance writing career on the Internet by the end of 2024. Virtually all of my former clients either seriously cut back on content creation, or even folded their websites altogether.

Did it suck? Absolutely. But if it’s one thing I’ve learned in my life it’s that if Plan A doesn’t work, you need to go to Plan B. And if you don’t have a Plan B, you need to create one. Life isn’t kind when we try to go into a hole and hide out.

I did that for a time – spending most 2025 doing close to nothing while I hatched my own Plan B. That plan is a YouTube Channel, which I named Retirement 4 the Rest of Us.

It’s a channel dedicated to those who are not quite prepared to retire – either emotionally or financially. In fact, you can say the channel is mostly for people who are either semi-retired or planning to be. That’s good, because I believe that’s the future of what retirement will look like.

There’s simply too much uncertainty facing retirees, especially those of modest means. But change isn’t the same as hopelessness, and that’s the point I’m aiming to make on my YouTube channel.

I hope you’ll swing by and check the channel out.

Retirement 4 the Rest of Us

The purpose of Retirement 4 the Rest of Us is to help viewers thrive with a lot less than $1 million. I’m coving topics like developing multiple income streams, expense reduction strategies, and gaining a better understanding of Social Security, Medicare, and a whole lot more.

I’m also working to block out all the noise, confusion, and myths that cause so much fear and insecurity in retirement. That includes tackling the many non-financial retirement topics that are just as important as the ones with dollar signs attached. Those include health, relationships and social connections, mental and emotional well-being, and maintaining purpose and relevance at a time in life when both can seem to slip away.

Hundreds of viewers are already sharing their own experiences and concerns in the comments, as I share mine in the videos. The channel is an open forum where I encourage viewers to share what they think and what they’re seeing out there!

If you’re looking for a different way to see and approach retirement, check out my YouTube channel, Retirement 4 the Rest of Us. I’m currently turning out two new videos each week on a wide variety of interesting and sometimes unconventional topics.
